Reaccreditation FAQ
Every seven years, existing degree programs undergo reaccreditation. This process verifies whether curricula, research, and processes remain up-to-date and meet academic or professional standards. This reaccreditation took place in the spring of 2026 for the Bachelor’s in Statistics, Master’s in Statistics, Bachelor’s in Data Science, Master’s in Data Science, and Master’s in Econometrics programs.
As a result of the reaccreditation, the program concepts and curricula have been modified and adapted. These changes consequently also necessitate new examination regulations. Thus, all students who are in their first semester during the 2026/2027 winter semester will be enrolled under these new examination regulations (PO 2026).
Currently, the examination regulations are not yet legally binding, as the new Higher Education Act required numerous formal adjustments and additions to the examination regulations. The new examination regulations are also being implemented gradually in campusportal, TU Dortmund University’s examination management system. Consequently, it is possible that at the beginning of the semester, the examination account screen for the old PO 2019 was still displayed. An adjustment to the new PO 2026 has been made or is still being made here. This transition should be fully completed before the start of the exam period.
Impact on Students:
Students enrolled under the 2019 Study Regulations may remain under those regulations. The departement ensures that students can successfully complete their studies within 1.5 times the standard period of study. The departement is required to offer exams, but not necessarily lectures. For capacity reasons, courses that no longer appear in the 2026 Study Regulations may no longer be offered. However, a tutorial and an examination opportunity will still be available. Provisions regarding when a particular course will be offered for the last time, how long the examination opportunity will remain available, and what will replace it are governed by the so-called “transitional regulation”, which can be found here for the respective degree program:
- Regulations Bachelor Statistics
- Regulations Bachelor Data Science
- Regulations Master Statistics
- Regulations Master Data Science
- Regulations Master Econometrics
All students enrolled under the 2019 Study Regulations have the option to transfer to the new 2026 Study Regulations by submitting an informal request to the respective examination board. This is not currently possible, as the new regulations are not yet legally effective. You will receive another message in a timely manner before the exam period.
We are currently compiling all questions regarding the recognition of course credits and changes of enrollment status, and will soon list them here in an FAQ (across all degree programs) and an FAQ (specific to each degree program).
