Paavo Sattler Organises Successful Workshop on Multivariate and Functional Data Analysis in Biostatistics (IBS-DR)

On 8 and 9 September, around 30 participants gathered at RWTH Aachen University for a workshop on multivariate and functional data analysis in biostatistics.

The event was organised by the Working Groups on Nonparametric Methods and Statistics for Stochastic Processes of the German Region of the International Biometric Society (IBS-DR).

The workshop was organised by Paavo Sattler, Co-Leader of the Working Group on Nonparametric Methods and Postdoc in the group of Markus Pauly, together with Jan Feifel (Merck Healthcare KGaA), Dennis Dobler (RWTH Aachen University), and Merle Munko (Universidade NOVA de Lisboa).

The workshop covered topics ranging from theoretical methodology to applied biostatistical research. This breadth was matched by the diverse backgrounds of the participants, which led to lively discussions as well as new ideas and collaborations.

The invited speakers were Ingrid Van Keilegom (KU Leuven), Virginie Rondeau (University of Bordeaux), Łukasz Smaga (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań), and Edgar Brunner (University Medical Center Göttingen), with Smaga and Brunner being long-standing research collaborators of the Pauly group.

This international collaboration continues in other projects as well: during the workshop, Marléne Baumeister, postdoc at our faculty, presented results together with Natalia Stefańska (Adam Mickiewicz University, Poznań) from the joint DFG project WAEVE, which focuses on powerful inference methods for functional data in complex factorial designs.
