The 2026 Rousseeuw Prize in Statistics

The R Project

This year, the highly prestigious Rousseeuw Prize is being awarded to the R Core Team for its work on the statistical software R.

In addition to the five named members of the R Core Team—Professors Brian Ripley (University of Oxford), Martin Mächler (ETH Zurich), Kurt Hornik (Vienna University of Economics and Business), Peter Dalgaard (Copenhagen Business School), and Luke Tierney (University of Iowa)—Dr. Uwe Ligges from the Department of Statistics has also been a member of the R Core Team since 2011.

Dr. Ligges is particularly involved in the management of CRAN (Comprehensive R Archive Network), which now hosts more than 20,000 R packages. In addition, he has been creating binary versions of the packages for Windows since 2003.
