Prof. Dr. Franz Hering (born 11. 01. 1936) studied mathematics in Frankfurt and Tübingen from 1956.

After receiving his diploma in 1961, he worked for several years in a research group for applied statistics at the Fraunhofer-Gesellschaft and as an assistant at the Institute for Applied Mathematics at the University of Bonn.

Doctorate in 1968, 1970 to 1972 as Max Kade Fellow in Seattle, Washington, 1973 research stay at the Hebrew University in Jerusalem. Habilitation 1972 for mathematics at the University of Bonn.

From 1972 to 2001, Mr. Hering represented the subject "Statistical Design of Experiments and Applications" at the Department of Statistics.
