New junior professor at the Faculty of Statistics: JProf. Dr. Christian Staerk

On April 1, 2024, Christian Staerk took over the junior professorship with tenure track for Biostatistical Methods for Environmental Medicine at the Faculty of Statistics at TU Dortmund University, which was appointed jointly with the IUF - Leibniz Institute for Environmental Medical Research in Düsseldorf.

Professor Staerk completed his studies in mathematics and his doctorate at the Institute of Statistics at RWTH Aachen University. He then worked as a postdoctoral researcher at the Institute for Medical Biometry, Informatics and Epidemiology (IMBIE) at the University of Bonn and took over the deputy professorship for Computational Statistics at RWTH Aachen University in the winter semester 2023/24.

At the IUF in Düsseldorf, he heads the junior research group "Biostatistical Methods for Environmental Medicine". A particular focus of his research is the development and application of methods of statistical learning and regression modeling for high-dimensional and complex biomedical data. With the junior research group at the IUF, he pursues an interdisciplinary approach that integrates methodological statistics, scalable algorithms and biomedical expertise. This approach enables a comprehensive analysis of genetic and environmental factors to better understand disease mechanisms and develop targeted strategies for individual prevention and public health.

We warmly welcome JProf. Staerk to our faculty!
